All Common Short Codes are obtained through the CSC Administrator's home page ( www.USshortcodes.com ). Although very similar to registering an Internet domain name, the secure nature of wireless networks requires a slightly more detailed process to ensure security and accuracy. This simple process includes 1) finding your short code, 2) applying for your code by submitting necessary registration data, 3) and obtain approval. Once approved and paid for, your CSC will be assigned to you for use. You are always welcome to renew your CSC if you wish to continue using it.

Find a CSC
From the CSCA website, use the search tool to locate the short code you desire. If a specific code is not necessary, the system will assign a random code upon request. This first step allows an applicant to check CSC availability first and avoid a rejected application due to an "unavailable" CSC.

Apply for a CSC
During the application process, a user will provide information necessary to manage the CSC process. This information will be the foundation for the users account. The account will be used to monitor the application process, manage a portfolio of CSCs, and receive general information and updates on the CSC program. Once the account is created, applications for CSCs are filled out and submitted. The application may request a random, computer-selected CSC or a specific CSC. Up to 20 CSCs may be contained on a single application. Each CSC is assigned to a single account, making it easier for an entire company to manage a complete portfolio of CSC from one account. A CSC may be leased for three (3), six (6), or twelve (12) month terms.

Once submitted, the applicant should track the status of the application in their account's "work list." Each CSC applied for will be reserved for 14 calendar days, so if an application is initially rejected, the applicant can modify and resubmit the application without the risk of losing the CSC.

Receive your CSC
Each application is reviewed for completeness and accuracy. If the application is found to be incomplete or erroneous, it will be rejected and the applicant will be notified by email. If it's approved, the application will receive an approval alert by email. Applicants can then log into their account to review the approved application and the newly created CSC.

Payment
Payment method is provided in the CSC Application. Payment for the entire CSC lease must be paid in full before the CSC Application is approved. For more on payment, click here .

Assigning your CSC
Once a CSC Application is approved by the Registry and payment is received, the Registry assigns the CSC to the applicant and notifies the wireless service providers by email. This CSC can not be registered by another applicant for the term of the lease, and the applicant has the right to renew the lease prior to it being available to another applicant. A CSC can not be transferred or subleased to another third party for the term of the lease.

Renewal and Expiration of your CSC

The CSC is leased to the applicant for the term of the lease with an option to renew and reactivate within 60 days following the CSC expiration date, after which the CSC will be made available to the public. The applicant can only renew the CSC for its own purposes; no CSC transfers can be made during the renewal period. At any time during the lease of your CSC, you may renew it. If you have not renewed it at least 30 days prior to expiration, you will be alerted by email. If the registrant renews the CSC during the aging period, the term will be retroactive to the expiration date.

If the CSC is not renewed by the expiration date, the CSC will be returned to the pool of available CSCs after the 60-day "aging period" without being assigned. This aging period will also ensure a smooth transition from one application to another with minimal overlap of previous users accessing the new application.
