Situation 

The Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) wanted to help state libraries communicate with patrons on issues like overdue books. 

Solution 

Using short codes, email-to-text technology, and SMS automation, OPLIN turned its email alerts into text messages, targeted to either the entire network or only delinquent accounts.

Results 

Short codes allow Ohio public libraries to send nearly 11,000 text messages a week—without augmenting existing infrastructure or incurring added cost or training.
